Train trip to Trier

Yesterday we took a train ride to Trier, by the Luxembourg border. Trier was founded by Romans in 24 BC and is the oldest city in Germany. There are still quite a few Roman ruins there, such as the Porta Nigra:

Overall, a very cool city. We walked around and took part of a guided tour, had some lunch and did a bit of shopping. Here we are on the train on the way out:

The train took us about 1 hour into the Rheingau, with views on the river, castles, and vineyards, before a transfer took us down the Mosel River for another piece. It was a beautiful ride, even though most of the trees are still bare.

And here is a rare picture of Madeleine in a tearful mood (most likely because it is bedtime and she wants to stay up and play with us!):

Sadie and Madeleine look like movie stars in those shades. Trier by train that sounds fun. That is what's nice about living off an island (Long Island) travel is so much easier. Especially when your living in Europe. Miss you all. Love always Mom

Wow, who is that behind the Foster Grants? Isabel is right, you do look like movie stars. Looks like you all had a great time.
Love to all
